Groundhog Day February 2, 2010

Well – isn’t that nice! The groundhog saw his shadow so, as legends says, we can expect 6 more weeks of winter…UGH. :(

But it is February, which means I can check out my nearby garden center to see what seeds they are getting in and start planning. And if I really need to get out of the house, I can head downtown to the Minneapolis Convention Center later this month and take in the Home and Garden Show to really get excited about spring. If you’re in the area too, here are the details and a link to the Minneapolis Convention Center Web site.

Making Ice Luminaries January 29, 2010

I want to try making ice luminaries – maybe it will inspire me to have company so I can decorate the walkway out in front of my house!

It doesn’t look too difficult. You can even put in some flowers, twigs, pine branches, or whatever else you want to make them extra special and beautiful.

Click here to find out how to make ice luminaries from MidwestWeekends.com.

Where Is Spring? January 26, 2010

Wow – this time of year I am SOOOO ready for spring. Our backyard garden is covered in a blanket of snow and ice. Early in the season we had heavy snow which really was hard on all the branches of my trees and shrubs. And now we’ve had rain, freezing rain and bitter cold. I fear much of my garden will show the destruction come spring.

If that isn’t bad enough, we have a rather large bunny wreaking havoc eating all my plants, bushes, trees, and shrubs. The snow is so deep, he’s able to walk right up to the bird feeder and eat! (It’s on a shephard’s hook so several feet off the ground).

Spring where are you? Come now!

I did see a cute article about making and decorating snowmen with vegetables. Check it out here. Guess I’ll just have to get outdoors the next time it snows.

Winter Frost January 19, 2010

I’m not a fan of Minnesota winters, but this morning’s frost was absolutely beautiful! So beautiful, in fact, that I went out in my pj’s to snap some pictures before it disappeared. Every branch of every tree is covered in a thick layer of snowy crystals – quite amazing.  Even though I dislike the cold, cloudy days – God does provide something gorgeous to enjoy each and every day. :-) May you have a blessed day!
